A Guide to Content Curation in Any Language
The struggle for rural and remote communities to provide quality education due to unreliable internet and electricity access was the subject of a November 2023 paper published in the International Journal of Emerging Technologies in Learning.
Offline digital libraries (ODLs) have emerged as cost-effective solutions to deliver information without major infrastructure investments. Despite the growing number of ODL initiatives, little research has focused on curating relevant content for these libraries.
Using the SolarSPELL initiative as a model, this article explores the process of developing a customized offline encyclopedia, Wikipedia for Schools, in English and Arabic. It provides practical insights, best practices, and recommendations for future research to improve digital content availability in offline environments.
